Your Focus!!!

Soooooooooo when I was with Jenny in Carlsbad, weeeeeelllll I was DETERMINED that we were going to play 13 Dead End Drive!!! I think I've been talking to them about playing this game since I first bought my ticket to go...maybe even before that!!!

The whole point of the game is to win Aunt Agatha's fortune by killing off the other characters in the house traps! Sounds kinda violent buuuuuuuuuut it's REALLY FUNNNNN!!!  BAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!

.

Weeeeeeeellll we ended up being soooooooo busy we didn't end up playing it til after church Sunday night and we were all SUPERRRR tired!!! Especially Jenny who even PURPOSEFULLY killed one of her own characters BECAUSE SHE HATES CATS!!! Yes...thats how much she hates them!!! LOL (I was a little offended because you know if I was a cat that is what I think I would look like...white and fluffy!!! and one of my nicknames IS fluffy cat!)

.

Anyways, I was playing pretty bad myself, WEEEEEELLLLL only cuz I was STILL LEARNING how to play as we went, buuuuuuuuut Jenny and Ryan had basically killed off all my characters EXCEPT for one!!!

.

Well at this point I was liiiiiiiiike, soooooo basically I'm going to lose?!?!?! So Ryan says well most likely. Buuuuuuuut instead of just conceding, OH NO, I NEVERRR CONCEDE A GAME, I nverrrrr give up with out a FIGHT!!! I said, WELLLLLLLLLL you neverrrrrr know!!!! After all WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!!!! I think I may have even asked God to help me beat my enemies...YES...I do stuff like that in board games!!!! AHAHAHAAA!!!

And from that point on I started going after KILLING RYAN AND JENNY'S CHARACTERS in the trapS!!! Before too long Jenny was out, after all she had killed her own character the cat and we got the rest!!! ANNNNND even though I only had one character left, I went whole heartedly after killing Ryan's characters.

.

Weeeeeeellllll now it was basically an equal game, Ryan and I each had one character left and I determined to kill his last character, I forgot about getting to the finish line, meanwhile Ryan bamboozled me annnnnnnd he made it with his last character to the finish line and WON!!!

.

I was liiiiiiiiiiike OH MAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!! I ALMOST WON!!! I came soooooooooo close to winning!!! SEE even though It looked like I was going to be the FIRST ONE OUT of the game, I turned it around and I came sooooooooo close to winning too!!! Ryan was like, i'm paraphrasing, yeah, if you had actually focused on WINNING instead of killing my characters, you most likely would have won!!!(and even though my blog gives him a headache, that inspired me for this devotional!🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄) I was liiiiiike, AAAAAAAAAH!!! 

.

LATER ON...

It made me think how sometimes in our walk with God we do the same thing. We start off determined to win, buuuuuuuut as the cares of this life come along, We forget what it's all really about and we begin to focus on something else. 

.

Instead of focusing on reaching lost souls, we focus on positions. Or instead of worshipping God we focus on hurts and offenses. Instead of focusing on glorifying God we focus on being noticed and receiving credit for the good things we have done. Instead of focusing on giving we focus on being blessed. Instead of focusing on God's anointing and favor in our life, we focus on our own accomplishments. Instead of focusing on a relationship with God we focus on doing things for God. 

.

While most of these things in of themselves are not bad things, they can not become our focus in this life. It's all about JESUS!!! Jesus! Jesus! JESUS!!! Jesus is the one who died for us. Jesus' name washes away my sin. Jesus is the only name that saves. Jesus HAS TO BE OUR FOCUS IN LIFE!!! Jesus is all that matters. We have to focus on living for Jesus! We have to focus on what Jesus did for us. We have to focus on being pleasing to Jesus! We have to focus on telling others about Jesus! We have to focus on one day seeing Jesus face to face!!! 

.

One thing my mom ALWAYS told me in life before she died was, "Just keep your eyes on Jesus Mary, and everything will be alright." When hurts in this life come my way, I remember her words. Instead of focusing on my problems, I have to focus on Jesus! If I focus on hurts and offenses I start to stumble and lose my way, buuuuuut if I just focus on JESUS, I'M GONNA MAKE IT ALL THE WAY!!!

I just want to encourage everyone today to keep their focus on JESUS!!! You can come sooooooo close to making it, buuuuuuut if you lose your focus on what really matters your gonna slip!!!! BUUUUUUUT, If you'll just keep your eyes on JESUS, everything is going to be alright!!! YOUR GOING TO MAKE IT!!!! As the song says, ♪♪Turn your eyes upon Jesus,

Look full in his wonderful face♫

♫And the things of earth will grow strangely dim

♪In the light of his glory and grace♫

When life has a black out!!!

I remember a time when I was 18, My sister and I went to a youth camp in Oklahoma. The dorm buildings  were solid brick buildings with now windows anywhere. One night as we were sleeping in our very uncomfortable bunks, I suddenly woke up to pitch blackness. I mean it was SOOOO DARK I could NOT even see my hand in front of me. As scared as I was, I knew from the whispers around me that there was a storm that had caused a black out which caused every light in the campgrounds to go out. It was dark my friends, DARK!!!

Even though I was scared and uncomfortable with the lights being out, I figured I would just go back to sleep, after all that made the most logical sense to do right??? I'm closing my eyes to go back to sleep when I hear a whisper, Mary! Mary! It was my sister, she was like, lets go to the bathroom...I'm like, just go to sleep! She's like, No lets go! I'm like, we can't see ANYTHING, there is no way we're going to make it out of this big room of bunks, into the hall and THEN find the bathroom in this pitch blackness! She's like, NO LETS GO!

.

Well sure enough WE GOT LOST! I'm telling you all it was one of the scariest feelings ever! We were literally lost in out own dorm room. You have to understand that per a room there are about 30 bunks set up and we were completely lost amongst them. We had no idea where our beds were anymore or where the door to the hallway was.

.

Holding hands we felt along the beds and walls, tripping over stuff till we finally made it to the hallway. Once in the hallway we were greeted the same blackness. Now we had no idea which room was ours OR how to get to the bathroom. We had no idea what to do as we walked along.

.

 Struggling through the darkness, we suddenly saw a tiny sliver of light. We realized that it was coming up from the dorm door. It was light from the moon seeping through the bottom door. It was such a tiny bit of light but to us it may as well have been a torch shining through. Thinking we could open the door all the way and let more moonlight in the dorm to find our way around.  Excitedly, We RAN to THE LIGHT!!!

What the devil can't do!!!

I was thinking about what ALL that the devil will do take away someone's testimony. I was thinking about when people leave church or mess up their lives in the world. I was thinking about ALL that the devil can do to mess somebody up. The devil can take away our joy and our happiness. He can take away our innocence and purity and corrupt our minds. He can take away our peace of mind and hope for our future... He can take away our morals and ethics and righteousness. He can take it ALL AWAY...and leave us empty and broken...he can do all that...IF you let him...

 .

BUUUUUT WHAT THE DEVIL CAN'T DO

BUT despite ALL that the devil CAN take from you, there is ONE THING that the devil CAN NEVER take from you!!!! What he can't EVER take away from you, is WHAT GOD HAS ALREADY DONE FOR YOU!!!!

 .

The devil wants to ruin you. He wants to destroy you. He wants make you think that you can't make it. That you've backslid, you've failed God, your turned your back on God so why even bother. Why even keep trying? He wants to take away what God's done for you...BUT he can't. The devil can't ever change what God has ALREADY DONE!!!  

 .

If you have ever obeyed Acts 2:38, repented of your sins, been baptized in Jesus name, YOUR SINS were washed away and the devil can't EVER change that!!! God has already FORGIVEN YOU!!! He has already filled YOU with the HOLY GHOST!!!  He has ALREADY brought you salvation!!! He has already redeemed YOU!!! There is NOTHING the devil can ever do to change that!!! He can tempt you to sin, but he can't take away what God has already done for you, because, God ALREADY did it.

 .

What it comes down to ultimately is one thing...CALVARY!!! It doesn't matter what you do or what you have done or what anyone says...the devil can NEVER take away CALVARY!!! Jesus has ALREADY died for YOU! Jesus already paid the price for every sin ever committed. He already took our place and became our sacrifice and there is nothing, nothing, NOTHING the devil can ever do to take that away!!!

Looking For A Friend???

My mom testified at church one time, and she shared something that I had NEVER heard before!!! It was soooo neat I just have to share it with you all!!!

She said that when we lived in New York, before we got in church, one of the things that prompted her to EVEN go to church at all, was that she was looking for a friend. She said that although there were people our family associated with, she didn't feel like she really had her own friend.

.

She was hoping for someone that she could do stuff with or just talk with on the phone! So when the Kathy, the lady across the street from us, invited my mom to church, one of the things that prompted her to go was she thought..."Maybe if I go, I'll find a FRIEND!!!"

.

She said that there were a lot of people that she met at church that she enjoyed fellowship with, BUT she said the friend she got, wasn't THE FRIEND she had been looking for. She said that when she got the Holy Ghost, she got a friend that has NEVER left her side. We were only at that church for nine months before we moved to AZ, she left behind her friends at that church, BUT Jesus, came right along with her!!! All her life long till she died she had Jesus, and she said that Jesus is STILL the best friend she has ever had!!!

Operation Christmas Box Party!!!

Soooooooooo MJ has been wanting to do this for a while now, you pack a shoe box and send it to a child in a 3rd world country and they'll get it in time for Christmas. Most of the kids that receive these boxes, this IS what they'll get for Christmas this year!!! Weeeeeellll we didn't get it done in time for last year BUUUUUUT this year we did it!!! We got two boxes packed for girls and brought them down to Crossroads Christian Bookstore (I'll do a review on this awesome Book and coffee shop in another post!) at 91st AVE and Olive for their Christmas Shoebox Party that they had yesterday!!!

I Just wanted to take a moment to share with you all about the movement of OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD!!! You fill a box with little toys, toiletries, school supplies and a note from you, you can tell these kids about Jesus, its a Christian based organization, you can pick boy or girl and the age group you want ANNNNND the coolest part IS you can actually track it and see WHO gets your box and even see them open it!!! HOW COOL IS THAT??? I gave the girls I packed the box for my contact info and said lets be friends!!! I just want encourage us as CHRISTIANS to take the time to reach out this Christmas!!! This is a GREAT thing to get your children involved in!!!

 At this party, you just went in an assembly line and filled boxes, their goal yesterday was to fill 400 boxes...MJ LOVED IT, she was filling them for babies!!!

We had a blast doing this!!!

I couldn't help but think about how my mom woulda LOVED participating in something like this!!! She LOVED reaching out to people of all ages and ethnicities!!!

Soooooooo the group that was in charge of putting this Christmas box party together was a group of Christian woman from all over the valley, they meet once a month all year long and make handmade toys and gifts to pack in these boxes, I these are little cd's that were turned into tops, the kids really get a kick out of stuff...Imagine IF our kids could appreciate something as simple as a HANDMADE TOP for Christmas, it really makes you think!!!

I plan on joining these woman this year in helping make these gifts and I plan bringing some of my kids to help out, they NEED to learn to REACH OUT AND APPRECIATE what they have!!! annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd guess what??? SO DO YOUR KIDS!!! Jus sayin...:))))) I'll put more info about that this coming year as I find out about it!!!

All I need!!

I read this and started laughing because I have a funny little story that happened with me and a can of Dr. Pepper. Sooooooo one afternoon a few years ago, I was at the churching backing these little mini chocolate donuts for something that I was going on at the church, I can't remember exactly what. Anywayz, I had all of my ingredients with me and I'm putting everything in the mixing bowl and as I'm reading the recipe, I actually realized that I didn't have any milk with me. I'm thinking like, GO TO THE STORE to BUY MILK??? "AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!!!" hmmmmm...WHAT can I do to make up for the milk???

Soooooooooooo I open the fridge and low and behold I see that there is cans of soda in the fridge that the youth are selling...PERFECT!!! I grab a can of Dr. Pepper, measure the liquid amount that is calling for milk, and pour the Dr. Pepper right into my chocolate donut mixture!!! I mix it up and BAM, it worked out perfectly I now bake them and then ice them!!!

.

So later on when everyone is eating my lil donuts and saying how good they were, I was nonchalantly like, Oh good, I didn't have any milk so I just substituted Dr. Pepper instead!!! Everyone was like, WHAAAAAAAAAAT??? The recipe called for MILK and you substituted it for DR. PEPPER??? I was like yeah! And everyone just started laughing...ONLY you would go from MILK to Dr. Pepper...I just shrugged my shoulders, It makes perfect sense to me...Annnnd to be honest, IT STILL DOES!!! Sometimes you just gotta USE WHATCHA GOT!!! Remember that folks if your ever out of milk...No need to waste time going to the store!!! It's true people, ALL YOU NEED IS A LITTLE DR. PEPPER AND A WHOLE LOT OF JESUS!!! Hee, hee!!! ;)))

What do you do when there's a black out???

The other day I was remembering this happening all those years ago. And it was SO VIVID in my mind how in that UTTER BLACKNESS, that little sliver of light underneath the door was such a welcomed sight that we actually RAN TO IT!!! We didn't think twice about it if weshould stay in the dark hallway where we were lost.. We RAN TO THE LIGHT!!!

And it got me to thinking,  in this crazy life that we live, we NEED to be running to THE LIGHT!!!

.
There are times in our lives when go through hard times.  Trials that we battle, storms that literally turn into black outs in our lives! We have no idea what happened. One day we're living a normal life, then suddenly we wake up one day and open our eyes to total and UTTER BLACKNESS!!! We can't see in front of us or behind us or anywhere around us. Its dark. Its black and we feel lost in the sense that we have know idea where we are going or what we should do to find our way there.
.
Let me tell you something that I've learned to do in those times, I JUST LOOK FOR THE LIGHT!!! The Bible says in Hebrews 8:9 "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world..." My friends, JESUS IS OUR LIGHT!!! When life gets hard, JUST RUN TO JESUS!!! Read His word! Talk to the man of God in your life for guidance. When your going through a trial, now is NOT the time to start skipping out on church services and avoiding your pastor. Instead, emerge yourself into every church service possible and linger in God's presence. Seek Godly council from your God-given authorities, elders and mentors. RUN TO THE LIGHT!!!
.
Imagine in your mind, stumbling blindly through your problems. You don't know what to do or where to go  and suddenly you see just a SLITHER of light shining out to you. What is it? Oh LOOK...it's YOUR BIBLE...HEEEEEYYY... just a corner peeking out under a pile of papers on your nightstand. Don't just IGNORE that little slither of light as you continue to stumble around the dark hallway of confusion in your life. That's THE LIGHT...The Word of God...RUN TO IT!!!

YOU RUN JESUS!!!

YOU RUN TO THE LIGHT!!!

I was thinking about how people outside of the church will like, FREAK OUT when they hear we don't have a TV in our home..."WHAT??? NO TV?? What about movies? WOW!  How do you live??? Or when I don't know who some famous person is. "You don't know what Brad Pitt looks like??? HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW????? That's how people view the way us Apostolics are!!!

Then there's us...

.

We were hanging out with a new couple in our church and we're all trying to figure out where we are going to eat with them. After AT LEAST an hour, we finally decide on Cheesecake Factory, which is one of my all time favorites. And the wife was like, Oh Cheesecake Factory, that seems interesting, I've never been there before! I was SOOOO SHOCKED to hear her say she's NEVER been to Cheesecake Factory before... (I'm thinkin like, OK SISTA this is PHOENIX, NOT ROSWELL...HAHA...JK! JK! All my Roswellian people...well kinda;)

.

Buuuuut later on I was thinking about it and it really made me laugh, the world outside of the church is so shocked about us not having TV and not following after the famous movie stars...

 

MEANWHILE...

Apostolics be like, WHAAAAT, you've NEVERRR been to Cheesecake Factory before???? How do YOU LIVE??? Jk! JK! Ahahahahaha!! Buuuut its kinda true too...don't DENY it my people!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I soooooooo LOVE being a One-God-Jesus-name-Apostolic!!! Its THE BEST life anyone could everrrrr have...annnnnnnnnnnnd its VERY TASTY TOO!!! Hee, hee!!! If you haven't tried it YOU SHOULD!!!

If Jesus was Carmel...

The other day we're at my mom's and MJ comes into the kitchen with a box of Ritz crackers. She's like, Mary look, if Jesus were Carmel they could use these! I'm like, huh??? She's like, IF Jesus were carmel they could use these crackers!!! I'm like, HUH??? Now she's getting flustered with me, she's like, IF JESUS WAS CARMEL they could use these crackers!!! I'm like, use the crackers for WHAT??? Oooooooh you mean for COMMUNION??? She's like, YES!!!

IF JESUS WERE CARMEL THEY COULD USE THESE CRACKERS FOR COMMUNION!!!

Ahahahahahahaha!!! I was laughing soooo hard now!!!! She's like, YOU KNOW because its supposed to be Jesus' body!!! I'm like, YEAH, I know! Now that you say it, it makes PERFECT SENSE! I'm like, annnnnnnnnd YOU KNOW what??? Jesus ACTUALLY WAS CARMEL!!! She's like, WHAT???? He was REALLY? I'm like, Yeah! Well he was Jewish and according to what Bishop Abbott has always taught us, and of course none of us really know FOR SURE, buuuuut most likely Jesus was a medium shade of brown...which is CARMEL!!! Mary Jo was like, Wow! I didn't know this! No one ever told me! Jesus was carmel, JUST LIKE ME!!!! I'm like, YEAH GIRL!!!

Then she pauses and is like, WAIT!!! So then WHY do they use the white crackers for communion??? I'm like, Uh, IDK!!! She's like, OKAAAAAAAAY, its supposed to be Jesus' body and he's carmel! Those crackers they're using are NOT carmel, they're WHITE!!!

 

THEN She's like, Oh Mary, do you think maybe Pastor doesn't know about Ritz crackers??? I'm like, Ummmmmm...UH...maybe...She's like with such concern, we should let him know Mary...Maybe you should text him right now...I'm thinkin OR we just let Sis. Abbott know when she reads my blog and she can pass the message on to her hubby!!! AHAHAHA!!! Soooooooooooooo Sis. Abbott FYI: MJ wants you guys to know that...

The answer...

I hold her in my arms, and my heart breaks at the recent news that I have heard about her. I remember when she was born...I held her in my arms...and admidst all the sin and chaos surrounding the two of us...this little newborn and I had one thing in common that no one else around us had...

we were both pure.

Now here she is, a couple years later, that same little baby girl,  I hold her in my arms and love her...and then I go home and I cry...because what we had in common is gone. At only two-years-old, this precious little baby girl is no longer pure and at 28-years-old, I still am. The sad, twisted irony of the situation troubles my heart...so thankful that God has kept me, yet so devestated that a little child has already been corrupted and tainted by sin. I bury my face in the ground and I cry and I cry and I cry.

I've been hearing a lot lately about the Kony 2012 thing...a campain to stop a horrible terrorist in Uganda from turning children into murders, soldeirs and sex slaves. After reading and seeing and listening to the horror going on, I couldn't help but cry. All of the sudden,  people have been telling me about Kony 2012! To spread the word, to blog about this and...And this post isn't directed to anyone imparticular, just in case your one of the people that have mentioned Kony 2012 to me...:)...AND...

 I suppose that knowing that my love for children and my love for African people, I would join, I would promote, I would sponsor...and while I thought about it, I can't help but wonder, WHY its sooooo easy for us to get involved in this propaganda that, YES, is a good cause, BUT, we forget about OUR OWN!!!

Yet we find it hard to go near them...to touch them...to love them...ugh they're just to much...to far gone...to much work... So we send our money, and hope that someone else will do our work...a bunch of liberal minded someones that don't even have the answer!!!!

 I'm NOT trying to take away from what anyone is doing for anyone in far away countries...its is ALWAYS good to help the hurting...BUUUUT...I am forever thankful that a pastor in Missouri had a burden for New York City!!! I am forever thankful, that he sent a man from his church that was willing to answer that call!!! I am FOREVER THANKFUL, that before that man answered the call to a foriegn field, he answered the call to a city in his own country!!! I am forever thankful for the lady that witnessed to the lady down the street from her...MY MOM!!! Oh how I am soooo thankful for that!!!

 I thank God for missioniaries and the people that answer the call to far away places...BUT some of us need to get a burden for people RIGHT HERE!!! YES... I hope and I pray they get Kony!!! Yes...help the kids overseas...BUUUUUT...in all your helping, in all your doing...

don't forget about the kid down the street...

they NEED Jesus TOO!!!

A different connection...

So the other day, as I told you all about HERE, an electrical line on our street broke, blew, caused and fire and we had a HUGE power shortage in our neighborhood. Everyone on our block and for about 15 blocks around us had NO eltricity. So my sis and I decided instead of stayin in the dark that we should go for a drive.

We decided to take a ride to Frys by our house. Its like HUGE and they have this awesome lounge with couches and EVERTHING and we just chill there for a little while. After an hour or so we headed back home to see if the the electricity had been fixed. So we're drivin back and all the houses are still dark and i'm like AWWW BUMMMMMER!!!

Then I see this house with a light shining and i'm like, YES!!! I say to my sis, THERESA look, the lights ARE back on!!! My sis is like, Oh  no, Mom and I were drivin around before and we saw that man's house and we stopped to talk to the man of the house. He said that his house and their whole block didn't lose their electicity.

I was what?! Thats cRaZy!!! All the houses on the blocks behind that block had lost their electricity. All the houses on the blocks in front of that block had lost their electricity. However, there stood that block of houses, smack dab in the middle of all the darkness, with their lights shining bright. Aparently, that one block of houses was connected to a different electrical source than all the other blocks of houses around them.  They had a DIFFERENT CONNECTION.

Jesus...

"You will never know that Jesus is all you need....

I saw this cartoon and cracked up! THIS is the way people are thinkin of Christianity these days! People want EVERYTHING to be easy peasy, with as little work as possible! 1,2,3...SNAP...and BAM...and instantley, your a Christian...

(Btw-NO, I do NOT think this is what Jesus LOOKED LIKE! LOL JESUS was a MILLION times better lookin!!!;)

 This is how following Jesus is often veiwed...

Like all you have to do is click your mouse on follow and your a Christian, but thats NOT how it works. Signing a paper doesn't make you any more a Christian that hitting "Like" on Facebook makes you to "Like" someone. Jesus doesn't have a "Love" button for you to love him and forwarding an email won't make you a Christian either... BUT Jesus says in Luke 9:23, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."

 Don't wait, you can follow JESUS TODAY!
